5 Fun Ideas for Your Wedding DJ

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

You can't expect your wedding night to be special if you hired a DJ that just sits down and plays music on an iPhone. A good DJ will know exactly what to do and what to play, how to keep the room engaged, get guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor all night long.

If you're looking for some fun ways for your DJ to keep your wedding reception rocking, here are 8 great suggestions for your wedding DJ.

1. Play a variety of music.

Weddings bring together several generations of loved ones for one night. This means that you could have a guest list ranging from 9 to 90 years old and each age group has their own definition of what they think good and bad music is.

One of the easiest ways to keep everyone in the room pleased is by having the DJ mix in a variety of old and new songs. Your older guests should appreciate a mix of classic hits from previous decades while you're younger crowd will be looking for more of the current stuff.

At Crown DJ's, our #1 rule when it comes to deciding what kind of music to play at a wedding reception is: "Play the most known songs by the most people."

2. Play some games

There's a bunch of different games you can play to keep your guests mentally engaged throughout the entire reception.

The Shoe Game is a massively popular activity that will allow everyone to get to know you better as the lovely couple that you are and might even make them giggle. A good DJ will be able to encourage crowd involvement too.

If you're looking to collect some money for your honeymoon fund, instead of doing a Dollar Dance, have your bridesmaids compete against your groomsmen by playing the Dash 4 Cash.

And, one of the easiest ways to open the dance floor is by having all your guests do a group photo on the dance floor then the DJ plays a banger that gets the party started.

3. Play Sing-alongs

There a certain songs that everyone in the room will know word-for-word and can't help but start singing whether they're on the dance floor, by the bar or in the bathroom.

In Nebraska, the best sing-along classics are songs like "Friends In Low Places", "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" and "You Shook Me All Night Long".

4. Add props to the dance floor

The best dance parties allow people to escape their troubled reality and express themselves through dance without fear of being judged. Nothing enables are room full of free spirits to truly express themselves like handing out random props to your guests.

Foam glow sticks, inflatable guitars, giant sunglasses, and feather boas are some popular (and inexpensive) choices that will get everyone even more excited about dancing.

5. Add Special FX

At most weddings, the First Dance is one of those moment where all of your guests are distracted and not really paying attention to you. By adding 2 Cold Sparkler Fountains to go light up the room at a specific point in the song will require everyone to stop what they're doing so they can pull their phone out and capture the moment.

Another way to use Special FX at your reception is to build up a moment so that you get all of your guests on the dance floor. Then when the beat drops your and your spouse spray the room with a CO2 Club Cannon while Cold Sparklers are shooting up on both sides of you. It will probably be one of the most epic moments of your entire day.

And guests who stuck around to witness it will be talking about it for a long!

Conclusion

An average Wedding DJ will play good music but an EXCELLENT Wedding DJ will know how to go above and beyond to make your reception extra special!
